We drive projects with precision and accountability, establishing clear timelines, uncompromising quality standards, and open communication. Our team anticipates challenges, keeps resources on track, and delivers results safely, efficiently, and on time, every time.
Engineering & Design Capabilities
Steel America’s engineering team delivers precision-driven design solutions for complex and large-scale structures. Our expertise spans advanced 3D modeling, structural analysis, and detailed fabrication drawings that meet rigorous industry standards including AISC, AWS, ISO, and NAVSEA. Leveraging tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Bluebeam Xtreme, we provide efficient, value-engineered designs optimized for fabrication and performance.
Large Scale Fabrication & Assembly
Steel America is equipped to take on some of the industry’s most complex and demanding fabrication projects. With 75,000 sq. ft. of indoor shop space, 100-ton overhead crane capacity, and 10 acres of outdoor build sites, we deliver the scale, flexibility, and precision required by both commercial and U.S. Navy customers.
Our team specializes in heavy fabrication assemblies up to 1,000MT, holding AISC Hydraulic Fabricator Certification and serving as a trusted supplier to Electric Boat and Newport News Shipbuilding. Projects include Columbia-class bulkheads, ballast tanks, carrier base assemblies, and auxiliary machinery room decks.
We provide turnkey fabrication, machining, blasting, and painting—all under one roof—supported by expert engineers, certified welders, and advanced equipment for precision cutting, forming, and assembly.
Precision Machining
Steel America’s Machine Shop is a fully staffed, NAVSEA-certified manufacturing and repair facility equipped to handle the most demanding submarine and surface ship components, including shafts of all ABS alloys. Every aspect of fabrication and repair is completed in-house at our Norfolk facility, ensuring total quality control and precision.
With 7 CNC turning lathes (up to 200 tons and 1,140″ between centers) and 14 manual lathes (up to 80,000 lbs. and 100 ft. between centers), our shop supports a full range of large-scale and high-precision machining. Additional assets include CNC horizontal and vertical machining centers, boring mills, valve repair systems, and specialized cladding and coating systems for MIL-STD-2199 and MIL-DTL-2845E applications.
Our certified welders, advanced equipment, and Heat-Tek post-weld stress relief oven enable precise, durable results across nearly every material in use today. From standard components to complex, one-of-a-kind fabrications, Steel America delivers reliable, high-tolerance machining solutions built to perform.
